Stimulating activities for children during their school holidays
The Smile Holidays Program offers children living in precarious conditions a safe place during school holidays where they can play, learn, and socialize. During Smile Holidays, children come to Baan Dek’s main premises where teachers and local partners hold activities that are designed to encourage and promote the children’s right to play, freedom of expression, and passion for learning.
BDF organizes registration and transportation for all children to attend Smile Holidays. Activity stations are organized by community partners, and the children get to attend each station throughout the course of the day. At least 5 community partners participate in every Smile Holidays program, including Chiang Mai University and a local medical center.
The stations are based on childhood development goals that include the following four skills:
• Physical skills including sports, motor skill activities, and nutritional cooking sessions
• Language skills including reading and discussion
• Social and emotional skills including self-esteem empowerment through dance, theater, team-building games, and cultural activities
• Cognitive skills including math and science-related games and activities.
